All of them are from the late 70's to the mid 80's. The 10 gauge has very good triggers so does the Navy Arms Pietta. The Pedersoli 12 gauge not so good.When I first got my Walker 4-5 years ago I found the loading lever would drop pretty regularly under recoil. Anther fella on a different board described a minor modification to the loading lever latch that solved the problem. My Walker is made by ASM and I found the latch piece did not have much spring to it like it should.One is a rusty JC Higgens .22 missing its clip, a .177 pellet rifle with a plugged barrel and a rusty CVA 12 guage percussion double barrel shotgun. There is a mediocre show in Sullivan put on by Prairieland Frontiersmen on the 8th of March starting at noon and on Saturday.The dovetails on a CVA Hawken are metric (don't know the exact size) smaller than the 3/8 sights most suppliers have. I bought the 3/8 and with a little judicious filing on them they fit the CVA dovetails. I didn't want to enlarge the dovetails in case I went back to the stock sights. The Walker is awesome for its size and the history around it, but that size is exactly what eventually makes it just turn into a PITA to shoot. The Dragoon has all the good parts of the Walker while being significantly handier.Many would say the Pennsylvania is more correct due to it's length, I got the Kentucky because I always wanted one and for no other reason. With a shorter barrel you are going to have a shorter sight radius, and it may be more difficult to get a good sight picture with the shorter barrels as you get older (fuzzy sights front and rear). The barrel is a 32" GM LRH 50 cal 1-28 twist. The action is from Taylor Machine.Then make a cutter along the design of a couple of saw teeth that fit the groove. This can cut the groove deeper and is advanced to the next groove. Then a paper shim is placed under the cutter and the process is repeated till the grooves are deepened to your goal. A slow and labor intensive job but rather simple.The Hawken and Renegade are advertised as being .500 bore with .006” grooves. This gives you a total space of .512” that you need to work off of. Subtract the .490 ball and this means you need to make up .022” of space. Divide that in half and you find that you need a minimum of .011” patching for a loose fit.As far as stripping, most of the old bluing was badly worn and almost off. I used progressive papers, 400, 600, 1,000 and 1,500 grit. Degreased with Dawn dish soap and water, rinsed, dried and further degreased with acetone. Applied Van's gun bluing (cold bluing) bought direct from their website.Throat: .448". As final observation, both barrels are tight at the frame threads. Well, that leaves me pretty well stuck as far as improvements. I'd hoped to ream the cylinder to .001 over groove diameter, but I'm not terribly excited about reaming it to .461. At the same time I have only .001" rifling engagement!The lock on the Pedersoli Besses are the style used on pattern 1756 and 1769 Besses with the wrong markings. It shows only one screw hole behind the flintcock because it has a long sear spring. I just finished this 1769 Pattern Short Land Brown Bess from the Rifle Shoppe. Now I will finish out the TRS Baker rifle I started a while back. I am in the process of making my own stain for curly maple using nitric acid and distilled water in a 5/1 solution. Going to split it up and try adding iron from different sources and see how it work out. My intention is to have one batch with wrought Iron added, another with some 1095 steel I have, and the last batch be a basic acid/water mix.i have had to watch carefully the stain/finish i use for that reason. i have a Pedersoli that any mineral spirit, alcohol, or even some lubes will shed its stain just as yours is doing. try ballistol without water in an inconspicuous place. or wax it down with Rennaissance wax. carefully. even wax ma draw the stain.For just the lock, I haven't found detailed instructions anywhere. Most of it seems pretty straightforward, except for the serpentine.
